Craft Room

Good Morning,

It is Memorial Day Week-end here. I don't have any projects to share with you as I was re-vamping my craft room. Organizing and sorting "stuff".
Friday DH decided to buy some kitchen cabinets and install them hold my crafty stuff and give me a nice work station. (Actually...I think he was tired of iris carts and various designs of drawers around the room.)lol

These are my new cabinets. There are doors for the top as well but were damaged when we opened the boxes so two more are on order. That wall is 11'. I went to the Dollar Tree and found an assortment of plastic bins and baskets that work great in the drawers to maximize space. I forgot to take those pictures.

This is inside my closet. Scrapbook paper in the centre. Stamps to the left and an assortment to the right.

My punch rack for now...working on getting DH to build me something else.
My computer so I can stay in touch.

Lousy picture but it's a table to hold my cricut and other things.

Now to settle down to some serious crafting...I received from Fargo Cat Shops some smooch and glimmer mist so hope to get a chance to try those out soon.

Quick & Easy - Masculine

Hi There,

Still have the sniffles so just a quick card to share.

Nothing easier than taking co-ordinating pattern paper and cutting it into different sized shapes. The stamp is from SU. It's actually two pieces but any image would work.

That's all I've got for today...I still have to finish up a couple projects for next week.

Enjoy.....Yvonne

CN Tower - Journal Challenge

 Hi There,

The challenge this week on Sketches! {by tamara}was to have journalling around your picture. This was a challenge for me as journalling is not my strongest ability. Be sure to check out what the rest of the design team did.

Kristen and Joel participated in the CN Tower climb to raise money for the Wildlife Foundation Fund. Kristen climbed it in 21:06 - Joel was a little longer. lol

Journalling around the CN Tower repeats the words Up & Up & Up....
The journalling was done on the computer and printed onto vellum.
Used my cricut gypsy to design the stairs and for all the lettering and bamboo.
And if you can't figure out what the jumbled letters say its' "Be The Change". I've already forgotten the line of the pattern paper but it was double-sided. You're seeing both sides of the same piece of pape.

On a personal note I still have stuffy head.
I've been meaning to tell you about my walks...I see bunnys and deer almost every morning. There is even a little fawn that still has her spots. So cute. A couple days ago I was walking in the evening and there was a fox in the neighborhood too. Pretty  cool.

I'm off to try and tidy my house. Wish me luck!

A Cup Cake For You! - Bazzill Glazed Cardstock

Good  Morning,

Hope everyone in Canada are enjoying their Victoria Day Long Week-end.

It's not a long week-end here so I have a card to share with you.

Today the focus of the card is the background paper. The paper is Bazzill - Glazed Cardstock - White Cupcake 12 x 12. The cupcakes are gorgeous. Embossed in white on white. Click on the picture to get a closer look. It is hard to photograph it. The real beauty of this paper is you can distress it with different color inks and the cupcakes really pop off the page then because they are embossed the cupcake images resist the ink.

Tim Holtz Distressed Ink Spun Sugar was used to alter the background. It's such a nice girly color.  House Mouse - Make A Wish is the stamp.  Following is the list of Copic markers used on the image.

Cake  - Pale Pink (RV10), Tender Pink (RV13)
Mouse 1 Bareley Beige (E11), Brick Beige (E31), Sand (E33), inside ears Blush (R20)
Mouse 2 Bareley Beige (E11)(tail/face/feet/hands), Cool Gray 3 & 5
Candles* Frost Blue (B00), Robin's Egg Blue (B02),Flame Canary yellow (Y02), Yellowish Skin Pink (YR61)
Plate*Pale Green (000), Spectrum Green (G02)
Ground Cool Grey #3

Please note I have marked some with asterisk* - You do not need the second color listed just use the first color and apply a couple extra coats to where you want a darker shade or the shadow.

Nestabilities to cut out the layers and some ink distressing with spun sugar ont he edges. I just happened to have some pink buttons to match.

Short post today...I seem to have managed to get my self a nasty head cold. Actually DH was so kind as to share it with me.  In case anyone is wondering the temperatures are climbing here.

One last thing ...I did get another package in the mail today from Fargo Cat Shops. I have so many new things to play with and some of it I've never worked with so this is going to be so much fun.  Be sure to check out Deborah's on line shop as she has uploaded more product. Also once you bring up an item be sure to click on the drop down box to view more color choices!

Enjoy your holiday!

Gold Foil - Another Twist!

Afternoon! Well I know many of you are getting ready for a long week-end.

Here's another card using the metal foil, alcohol inks and distress inks.

Alcohol Inks used on the card and piece below - Stream, Espresso, Butterscotch
Tim Holtz Distress Inks - Brushed Corduroy, Peeled Paint
Cuttlebug Folder - Herring Bone
Happy Father's Day sentiment - Make your own with Grafix Rub -Onz Transfer Film
The image was stamped on white cardstock and embossed with Black Powder and distressed with above colors. The green cardstock was also distressed with same colors to tone down the green.

After I was done with the alcohol inks and I made sure it was dry - use a sanding tool and remove the color. Your embossed image will pop. All note that I did the inks on the gold side of the foil but when sanded down the silver shows through.
To see another sample of the distress inks check out previous post on May 12th.

Off to enjoy my week-end. Hope you enjoy yours too!

Fragrant Flowers - House Mouse - coloring

Good Afternoon,

Long tutorial today. Lots of pictures.

The card is a recessed window and instructions can be found at Splitcoaststampers.Splitcoaststampers.

Starting with the finished product. House Mouse stamp called Frangrant Flowers. Embossed green Brazzell leaf cardstock, Bazzill Half Edge Borders and Copics can all be found at FargoCat Shops. Prima Flowers and brads from my stash.

This is a large stamp - covers about an area of 4" x 6". I thought it would take a lot longer to color but it really is very quick and actually requires less shading than a lot of stamps.

Stamp image in Momento Black Ink.

1.  Color stems in flowers Yellow Green (YG03)
2. Color flowers Dark Pink (RV34) Don't worry about getting perfect coverage-it's doesn't need to be even in color.

3. With Prune (BV02) just do little strokes of color here and there. Not too much. You're just wanting to create different shades.

4. Now finish in coloring the leaves with Yellow Green (YG03)
5.  Add Cool Gray #1 to the inside of the vase to create some shadows.

6. The veins of the leaves and anywhere you want to create a shadow add some Apple Green (G14). If you figure you have it to dark go over with the Yellow Green and blend.

If you click on the picture above and the picture below you can see where I darkened up the leaves.

Decided to make the branch a little darker so applied Lionet Gold (Y28).
All mice the light areas are done in Barely Beige (E11) and pink areas Blush (R20)
Top Mouse Cool Gray #3 & 5
Brown Mouse Brick Beige (E31) & Sand (E33)
Bottom Right Mouse Warm Grey #3 & 5

!
Lastly I wanted the background colored in. I worked in small areas. Colored the area first with the colorless blender and then over top used Frost Blue (B00) for the sky and Pale Green (G000) for the grass. If I thought is was too dark in areas go over it again with the colorless blender to lighten the ink.

Hope you found some of this helpful. If you have any questions leave a comment and I'll e-mail you back if you leave a contact address otherwise I will answer your question in the comments section of the post.

Sun is shining the wind is blowing lightly. Think I'll head outside now!

Enjoy!

Challenge 120 - Card Sketch

Tuesday, which means another challenge from Sketches! {by tamara}. Today it was a card challenge.

The half circle I cut using the cricut. It was first cut in So Saffron Yellow and then cut again with vellum. The vellum has butterflies and dragonflies on it. The coral cardstock was embossed with the Swirls folder. Lots of prima flowers in the corner and some organdy white ribbon tucked in so it resembled more of a bouquet. The sentiment embossed in gold and the yellow cardstock was also edged in gold pen. The two label shapes were also cut from the Cricut cartridges. I stamped a couple butterflies on vellum and colored in with Copics.
To see what the rest of the design team did hop on over to Sketches! {by tamara}. If you're in the mood play along with the sketch and upload it in the comments section of Sketches! {by tamara}.

I'm playing with a House Mouse stamp today (it's a big one) and I'll have tutorial on Thursday for coloring the flowers and leaves. Hope to see you then.

Distress Inks & WINNERS!

 Good Afternoon,

I'm later in the day posting...hmmm that's what happens when you have to create the project in the morning! I did craft on Saturday due to rain however it was scrapbooking. I just love the double page layout I did...yes it is of Xavier but I can't share it with you yet cause it's for next months design team. But I love it and I will tell you I used Bazzills Half the Edge cardstock strips. They worked great.

The winners....at the end of the post.

That brings us to todays cards. I wanted to use Tim Holtz Distress Inks again today. Just wanted to show you how versatile they are.
I started off with a piece of white cardstock and stamped my image in Momento Black Ink. Next step was to use my Copics and color in the flower. Flesh (R02) colored in the entire flowers. Chrome Orange (YR04) I went back over the flower and just hit and missed different petals. that will create a light/dark effect. If you think it is too bold color over the entire flower again with Flesh and it will soften it. The leaves Yellow Green (YG03). (Keep reading cause I've done something else to them later) Old paper distress ink and the blending tool, applied color over the whole stamped image including the flowers. I then switched to Vintage brown and just distressed the edges and under the flowers. I still thought the green was a little to bold so I layered over the leaves with Lionet Gold (Y28). The beauty of Copics you can layer/alter so easily. There's a scrolly something in the left corner colored in with Buttercup Yellow (Y21). Turns out almost the same color as the Vintage.
Pattern paper works great for altering and we all have pattern paper! Usually not the shade we're looking for though. :) Again the Vintage Brown to alter the outside edges. The base of the card is Bazzill Bling in orange. So pretty and no it's not to blingy for the vintage look.

Even though Distress Inks are a dye based ink and usually dye inks dry to fast to be embossed these inks do stay wet long enough to emboss. Hence I embossed with clear powder. I will mention the inks did dry faster on the pattern paper versus my white cardstock.  Some papers will have a little more coating on them which will lengthen the dry time.
This is what the pattern paper looked like before I distressed it with Vintage Brown.

Moving onto the winners of FargoCat Shops  Give-A-Way! First I'd like to thank everyone who left comments and or signed up as a follower or subscribed to my blog. To Distress Or Not??? That Is The ?

Good Morning,

I had a busy day yesterday...sitting around waiting for the lawn mower repair guy...I was able to get some card making in anyway and here is what I have for you.

The pinkie die cut is from my Cricut - cartridge "lyrical letters". It was cut at 5". Both card are made from exactly the same paper products (same colors too) just embellished differently.

Bazzill's Bling cardstock was used for the die cut and the card base is Bazzill Celebration (four different textures/designs). This design is more of a herringbone. Please note that the prices at FargoCat Shops is per sheet. In the Bling there are 8 1/2 x 11 ($.50 per sheet) and 12 x 12 ($.70 per sheet). The   Bazzill Celebration is 12 x 12 sheets (1.20 per sheet). Would make great wedding  pages or cards. Very elegant.
Also if you happen to be browsing around at FargoCat Shops be sure to click on the number at the bottom of the page to go to a second page. Hey...I just found this when I was browsing the cardstock!

First card I choose to try out the distress inks to alter the color. I used Wild Honey and Victorian Velvet. Even with the textured background I was able to stamp and emboss on it. I would recommend a bolder stamp and more vibrant ink so the image doesn't get lost. Distress Inks tend to stay wet a little long and the cardstock has a bit of a gloss to it so I was able to wipe off some of the color if I thought it was too dark.

Finishing up here for the day. Blog Candy closes tomorrow night. Please see May 2nd post for details on entering if you haven't done so already.

I'm off to do some errands...go to the post office (my favorite, right), need a new gold Krylon pen, pick up dry cleaning, get some reading material, and maybe a frozen yogurt for lunch. hehehe The yogurt place is beside the postoffice. Hey...it's my treat for standing in line!

MOJO Monday #138 - Gold Foil & Alcohol Inks

Good Afternoon...A little late in the day to be posting but...I was playing around with some new "stuff" and then decided I needed to turn the "stuff" into something. So I checked out Mojo Monday's Challenge and created this card.

Here's Mojo Monday #138 Sketch

Copic markers used :
RV29 - Crimson
RV34 - Dark Pink
G07 - Nile Green
G14 - Apple Green

I started out deciding I wanted to play with my Impressabilitie (Butterfly) from Spellbinders. I also have a roll of gold craft foil. Actually is gold on one side and silver on the other.  I embossed the foil with my Cuttlebug and then used alcohol inks to alter the color.
My main color was Wild Plum. I added some Lettuce but it didn't show up a lot. Finished it off with pearl mixative and some of the blending solution. The blending solution helps to lighten the wild plum color. Next was finding some cardstock that would match this vibrant color. I used a couple colors from Stampin' Up - Rich Razzleberry & Melon Mambo.

White brads & white embossing powder finish things off.

Check back in tomorrow I have a couple cards to share with you. Same card, same paper, two different looks. Interested.....see you tomorrow.

Sketches!{by tamara} - Masking Technique

Good Morning,

Weekly challenge today from Sketches!{by tamara}.

Todays was a Recipe Challenge. Must use at least these three items on your card or scrapbook page.

  1. Masking
  2. Yellow
  3. Alphabet

I choose to do a card. Those are yummy little M & M's inside the plastic holder. Just so you know the little cups are from Stampin' Up. Do you see that tag on the left hand side. When you pull it the candies fall out the opening on the inside of the card. The masking part of the card are the little candies under the candy machine.

                                                      How to do Masking?

  1. Masking creates the illusion of depth. First decide what you want to be in front or foremost on your card and stamp that image.
  2. On scrap paper stamp and cut around the image closely. Depending on what you are masking you may need to cut more than one image. For the candies above I have 4 or more masks going. I use post it notes so the back of the cutout image is slightly sticky.
  3. Place your cut out image overtop of the image you have already stamped. Now stamp partly overtop of the mask (post it note image) and partly on the cardstock. When you lift off the masked image you will see the newly stamped image looks like it is behind the first image that you stamped.
That's all there is to it. You can do masking as well with a stencil on your card or scrapbook page. Distress Inks would work great with stencils.

Well pop on over and see what the other gals from Sketches!{by tamara} have created.

Off to enjoy my day....hope you do too!

Tim Holtz Distress Inks

Good Morning,

Hope all you Mothers out there had a wonderful day. I had a great day and got in a little crafty time too!

Only five days until I draw for the prizes FargoCat Designs has offered up for the grand opening of FargoCat Shops. Read all the details from my May 2nd post here and get your name in for a chance to win.

Long post today so grab that coffee and let's get to it. I'm featuring Tim Holtz Distress Inks, blending tools and the splat mat. I've linked a video so you can watch how the products are used. All I can say is they work exactly like the video shows them. The splat mat is awesome in enabling you to blend your ink colors. If you think you can use a piece of scrap paper and get it to work the same, you won't. Besides that the scrap paper will suck up your ink before you get a chance to blend it to your product.

Did you know you can also heat emboss with Tim Holtz Distress Inks. Check out the link below for some interesting tips and techniques on using the Tim Holtz Distress Inks.

Thinking Inking Distress Inks - Two Peas In A Bucket

I've downloaded a PDF file with all the info that you could print out and use as easy reference, however I can't seem to link or download the file to my blog so if you want a copy either leave a comment with an e-mail address or e-mail me directly at ybalmer@hotmail.com and I'll send it to you.

I'm sharing three cards with you all using distress inks.

Card One -

Using the Tim Holtz method as shown in the above link I blended Forest Moss, Rusty Hinge and Wild Honey over top of an ivory colored cardstock. (the pieces would be the clock face and the strip in the middle of the card) Coverage was very easy to do and I did use the blending sponges and the splat mat. Added some distress ink around the outer layer of the clock face and distressed the edge of the paper on the face. The clock face was stamped with Pumice Stone as were the multiple images on  the border. Both the sentiment and the saying were embossed in black. The edge at the top of the border is Bazzill's half borders and the lower edge is black grosgrain ribbon with a metal buckle. Finish it off with a brad for the clock centre and you have a Father's Day or any masculine card.

Card Two -

The image and sentiment are both stamped in distress ink Pumice Stone. The pieces of cardstock the train image and the pieces in the background that were cuttlebugged started out being a light sand color. Sort of like the wall behind the card...Bundled Sage & Stormy Sky were used to alter the color. The color of paper the sentiment is stamped on and the layer behind the train and behind the strips of cardstock are Baha Breeze which is also the color of the base of the card and corresponding layers. I added Pumice Stone to the edges. See how easy it was to alter the cardstock color with these inks and I didn't need to have multiple cardstock colors to create multiple layers. The large piece of background paper that everything is layered onto was from my scrap pile. Added some Dew Drops as filler and accent. The image and the sentiment are raised with dimensionals.

Card Three -

This image is from a photostamp and is stamped on glossy cardstock.  Image is just lightly colored in with Ciao markers. Keep in mind you don't need a lot of different colored markers as they are designed so you can do multiple layers of color. So if you have a light brown you can do multiple layers to create a darker color. Also you can use different colored markers over top of each other without damaging your marker and create your own color palette.

When I stamped the image I left a larger border of white around the image to frame it. On scrap paper I stamped the image a second time and cut it out right along the border of the stamp. Now I've created a mask to lay over top of the image so I can use Distress Ink Spun Sugar around the outer border of the image without the worry of getting color onto my stamped image. Once again in a circular motion starting on your splat mat and continuing to your paper work the color onto the border. I also cut a larger piece of glossy cardstock and completely covered that piece to match the top layer.  Another of the Bazzill Half edges down the right side. So how many different shapes have I shown you now. Each package has 10 different shapes (2 of each). Lastly I had some pretty little black flowers and I added a gemstone brad in the centre with little bits of organdy ribbon sticking out here and there.
If you have any questions about the techniques or how I did the cards, drop me an e-mail. All the Tim Holtz Distress inks are his latest releases and can be found at FargoCat Shops. While you're there check out the embellishments - there's some new dew drops including BUTTERFLY shaped dew drops.  This week more stock will be going up on the site so be sure to check back.

Hope to see you tomorrow. I'll be sharing my take on Sketches{by tamara}!

Houston Zoo Fun

Hey Look...Friday already. Where does the week go.

It's so much fun being a grown-up sometimes...you can have dessert before supper or instead of supper! I was going to make supper at home and then we decided to go check out some stuff at the hardware store (looking at cupboards for the craftroom) and then we thought perhaps a light salad for supper and then a walk down by the waterway. We make it to the supper part but as we're wandering around deciding where we should eat I spot an ice-cream store...you can figure the rest. It was hot out and I decided ice-cream was better than a salad! Dairy product....I got chocolate...Kevin settled for some fat-free vanilla but with a waffle cone.

Well that brings us to my scrapbook page for today....Xavier at the Houston Zoo! He really did enjoy the fauna as much as looking at the animals and Grampa enjoyed packing him around.

The pattern paper is from "Safari Kids". I used one sheet and cut it in two to create the bottom of each page. I had another sheet of striped paper that matched and I cut 1" x 12" strips to place at the top. Blue and red cardstock for the base. Cricut was used to cut the titles and the Giraffe.  The frame was cut using the cartridge George & Basic Shapes and I welded the squares together before cutting. Can yo tell I like my Cricut! Leave me a comment if you own a cricut, & what you like about it!

I used a light cream color for the body of the giraffe and then distressed it with ink. Marker was used to highlight some lines on him - around face, legs & chest. My favorite part is the horns, mane and tail. I added brown flower soft. Some goggle eyes too!

The lettering I wiped Versamark pad over the cardstock and then added clear embossing powder to the words would be glossy and stand out more.
Thanks for peeking in today. My next post will probably be Monday.
I'll be featuring cards I've made for FargoCatDesigns using Tim Holtz Distress Inks.
Deborah is having a class at her place on the week-end featuring Copic Markers and some House Mouse stamps. Click on the link above for details. She has some sets of Copic Markers on sale as well. Sign up for her newsletter to get the latest sales.

Have a great week-end!

This special note is for one of my good friends....

Keep It Up Ann....I know you'll reach your goal!!!!

House Mouse Tutorial

Hi There,

I know ...I told you I'd share a scrapbook page yesterday. I choose sun over crafting. I did finish it up last night but didn't photograph it. But on an up side I can post it on Friday!

Today I wanted to share with you how I color my House Mouse's or is it House Mices? lol
Firstly I am not (at this time) Copic Certified so I'm sharing what works for me. When I was at CHA I did manage to squeeze in a two-hour class but it covered just some coloring techniques.

There is a great site I Like Markers that gives great information and tutorials on using Copic Markers.

I use Memento Black to stamp my images. Doesn't bleed. I usually give it about 5 minutes after I've stamped it just to make sure it is dry. You want to use a dye based ink versus a solvent ink like Stazon as the ingredients in copics and Stazon react badly with each other. I believe it is due to both of them being alcohol based.

These are the four Ciao Copic Markers I used to color in my mouse. Any combination of browns can be used, just remember to go from lightest to darkest.
My image stamped in Momento Ink.

Start with E21 (Baby Skin Pink) and color in the entire Mouse. For the large areas make sure you color in small circles. For the tiny areas just use a light touch of the brush tip to these spots. Click on any photos to enlarge the image to get a more detailed look! The beauty of copics is you can do multiple coats of color without having your paper pil or breakdown.
Next use E31 (Brick Beige). Color only the areas that have fur on them.
You may do more than one coat to deepen the tone. Same goes for all the areas you colored in E21. You can go over those to darken.

Lastly E33 (sand) and use the tip end and check make little lines to match the fur being sure to make your lines in the directions of the fur. Notice I don't put a mark on each hair as that would probably result in the image being covered to solidly. What I'm trying to do is have some of the color from underneath show through and create depth and texture. Now add a little RV10 (pale pink) in the ear. Again anywhere you think there might be a shadow such as under the ears, along the bottom of the tail go over that area again with E31.  Don't forget if you go outside of the lines you can use the clear blender tool to fix the ooops! My image may look like a lot of ooopes but I had the camera on macro so it magnified it. It doesn't even show when I look at the image. (of course my eyesight isn't the best! lol)
Lastly here is my card using Butterfly Express. (this is the same stamp I used on Monday)
The pink cardstock is Bazzill Bling. It's textured and has a bit of a shimmer to it. Wanted to show you that I was able to heat emboss on it and the font came out clear. All images were done with the copics. The butterfly I used R20(blush), BV31 (pale lavender), C3 & C5 (cool greys). I choose to cut the image apart. The butterfly was colored, cut out and then covered in Diamond Glaze. While it was still flexible (not quite dry) I molded the wings so when it dried completely there would be dimension.

Gold xrylon pen to edge all the lavender cardstock. Cuttlebug leaf folder to emboss the lavender cardstock. (Bazzill crosshatch texture). The fold on the card was a little different. You can see the inner layer and the outer shell. The brads I didn't want them showing all the way through the cardstock or creating a lump between layers so I cut the back off of them and used a glue dot to adhere them to the card so they are strictly for looks only. They're not holding anything together.
So if you're still reading after this long winded post. Thanks! I hope you enjoyed it the supplies can be found at FargoCatShops.

Until tomorrow....bye!

MR. MESSY - Layout Challenge

Morning,

As promised today is my first layout for Sketches!{by Tamara}.  Click on the link to see what the rest of the design team did with the layout. Each Tuesday a different challenge is posted. Today is the Layout Challenge.

Here is the sketch . I choose to rotate it. Hope you like "my take" on it!

I used lots of different Cricut cartridges on this layout. Of course I wrote them all down and now I can't find the paper with the details. Go figure! New Arrival for the rattle and bottle. Some stickles on the rattle and the bottle was inked.

The blocks were from the cartridge "Printing Press" and then I inked around the block for addded depth and with a marker stitched around each letter.

I can't remember which font I used for the letters but I used the "Gypsy" to weld the letters together.
Again I added some stitching to tye things together.  Ribbon was from my stash as were the brads.

Xavier is such a cutie...I know I'm not biased am I? lol If I am productive today I'll have another scrapbook page for tomorrow.  A ZOO page!

Thanks for stopping by....

Yvonne
